Embroidery Project – Small Snail Purse/Bag with Vintage Snail Embroidery, Cut Outer Purse Fabric Part 9

Piecing the felt together to form a panel for the purse pattern…

Well…the felt rectangle just isn’t big enough to fit the entire pattern, so we will piece the felt together to create a fabric sheet big enough to cover the pattern.

We will overlap the blue over the green (sky over grass). Lay the blue to match the top left edge of the pattern. Here you can see that we need to leave an overlap for strength when sewing the two sheets together.

Here the blue and green are overlapped and cover the entire pattern under it. You can see that the lining fabric is much longer than the felt. The felt happens to end at the edge of the paper I left hanging beyond the original pattern. I will have to trim the lining. (Remember in Part 8, I did not trim the bottom edge because I wanted to see if I could make the bag longer than what the pattern specified. It is about 2 inches longer than the pattern from the pdf file.)

The green felt needs to be trimmed on the right side to fit the pattern.

Use the rotary cutters and the quilt ruler to trim the bottom.

Here you can see bottom the edges trimmed evenly.

The right side needs to be trimmed.

Again, use the rotary cutter and the quilt ruler to make the straight line cuts.

It just takes seconds to trim with the right tools.

Cut the curved pattern edges with scissors. One set is cut out.

We need a second set to complete the outer fabric. Here another green rectangle is on the correctly sized one. The cut blue piece is placed on another blue rectangle. We will cut second ones using the first ones as guides.
